First Generation
1. Solomon BASSFORD, son of (?) BASSFORD. Born abt 1776-1784. [1], [2] age 26-44 in 1810 and 1820 censuses. Solomon died aft 1820. [2] aka: Bashford.

He might be the son of Thomas Bassford from Putnam Co., NY. [3]

[4] indicates that Roxannah Hill married an unknown brother of James Bassford (who married Roxannah’s sister Sabra) and had children Solomon, Leonard and Daniel. Some sources have suggested that she would be the wife of Solomon, however, Roxannah would be to young to be his wife or the mother of at least Solomon L. [5] It is therefore unproven that Solomon is the brother of James.

There was a Solomon Bashford/Bassford in New York City in 1800, in Pawlet, VT in 1810, and Wilton, Saratoga Co., NY in 1820. [3] Given the name pattern, he might be the father of the Solomon L. Bassford who was born abt 1805 in New York. [6] If not, he probably is related somehow.

There was a Margaret Bassford who died 16 Dec 1857, age 78, and is buried in the Old Pawlet Cemetery, Pawlet, VT. (Gravestone, Old Pawlet Cemetery, Pawlet, Rutland Co., VT, Margaret Bassford/Died/Dec. 16, 1857/AE. 78) [8] Could she be Solomon’s wife? This Margaret is living in Pawlet in the 1850 census (age 76, b. NY) together with A Frances M. Bassford (age 16, b. VT). [9]

There was a Margaret Basford (b. abt Mar 1804, d. 17 Sep 1872, Fall River, WI) who married Benjamin Sage (b. abt Jan 1786, d. 21 Aug 1871, Fall River, WI). They had a son Solomon Basford Sage, b. 14 Feb 1840. Pawlet, VT. [10] Perhaps Margaret is another child of Solomon?

He married (?) (BASSFORD) ? . Born ? . (?) died ? .

It has beens suggested that Solomon married Roxannah Hill, the daughter of Nathaniel Hill of Pawlet, VT. However, this does not fit with her birthdate of abt 1801.

They had the following children:
2i.
Solomon L. (1805-1852)
3ii.
Leonard G. (~1815-<1869)
4iii.
Daniel (?-?)
